On this page I will be publishing materials I have developed for pre-learning and overlearning with my wonderful grandson Oscar who is 9 years old and autistic. I hope parents and teachers will find the materials useful as well. If you would like me to adapt them for your child then just email and I’ll do it for you – you will need to send me just a few details and a photo (confidentiality assured). Same goes for any free advice, guidance and advocacy (I’m a trained Childline Counsellor and Citizen’s Advice Advisor specialising in Education Law and Children’s Rights.) – geoff.hannan@btinternet.com
Thank you for all the teachers, advisors and UK Expert Committee colleagues who have commented on Oscar’s IDP structures and wording I have sent them and published below. I am heartened by experts and practitioners concurring with the IDP requirements we are requesting from Powys.
Below is Word file for working with Oscar in ways he responds well to: 1. Using a computer 2. Short step-by-step approaches timed with a stop watch 3. Immediate and visual rewards for success. 4. Structured movement breaks- linked into content of task 5. Opportunities to physicalise conceptual learning. 6. Precision probes and self-monitoring especially of successes. The text boxes are formatted to accept numbers and text. I am happy to send you this via email as well- geoff.hannan@btinternet.com
